Raleigh Mold Remediation Cost: Typical Ranges for 2026
Published national cost guides, named line by line, plus what tends to push a Raleigh job toward the top or bottom of each range. None of these figures is a quote.
Fixr's cost guide puts typical mold remediation at $1,500–$9,000 (average $3,500), or about $10–$30 per square foot. A bathroom runs $500–$1,500, an HVAC system $3,000–$10,000 and a whole house $10,000–$30,000. An inspection on its own is $450–$800. These are national ranges, not Raleigh quotes.

What moves a job up or down
- Square footage. Fixr puts typical work at $10–$30 per square foot, so the size of the affected area is usually the biggest factor.
- Material that has to go. Drywall, insulation and carpet pad that grew mold are usually cut out and replaced, and the rebuild can cost more than the cleanup.
- Location. A bathroom is easy to seal off. An attic, a crawl space or an air handler takes more setup and more hours.
- The moisture fix. A leak repair (Fixr lists $150–$350 for a typical one), a new bath fan or an AC drain repair may be billed separately or handled by another trade.
- Testing. Air sampling adds $500–$700 (Fixr). Sometimes useful, often not.
Where these numbers come from
No public source tracks what Raleigh mold jobs cost, so this page uses two named national guides instead: Fixr's mold remediation, inspection and water damage guides (updated 2025) and Bob Vila's mold remediation guide (updated 2024). Use them to sanity-check a quote, not as a promise of what any Raleigh company will charge.
How Raleigh's weather and housing show up on the bill
Raleigh's late summer is its wettest and most humid stretch: July through September each average 4.71–5.15 inches of precipitation at the airport (NOAA normals), and morning humidity runs 89–90% from August into October (NOAA Comparative Climatic Data). That season works the air conditioning hardest, which matters because a full HVAC system job is one of the pricier lines in the table, at $3,000–$10,000 (Fixr).
With about 45% of the city's homes built in 2000 or later (U.S. Census), many houses here have modern drywall rather than old plaster. Wall work still spans $1,000–$12,000, depending on how much comes out.
Reading a quote before you sign
- Does it name the moisture source and say who will fix it?
- Does it list, in square feet, what will be removed and what will be cleaned?
- Is containment (plastic sheeting, negative air) included for larger areas?
- Is testing explained, or simply added?
- Does it describe how the finished work will be checked?
Ask for a written, itemized price and the company's warranty terms before you agree to anything. If remediation and rebuilding together reach $40,000 or more, North Carolina requires a licensed general contractor (G.S. 87-1).
Cost questions
How much does it cost to get mold removed?
Fixr's typical range is $1,500 to $9,000, with $3,500 as the national average. Small areas can come in around $500, and work across a whole house can reach $30,000. Size, the material removed and access explain most of the spread.
Are these Raleigh prices?
No. They are typical national ranges published by Fixr and Bob Vila, named in the table. Raleigh jobs can fall inside or outside them. The number that counts is the written price you get after someone has looked at your home.
Why do two quotes for the same mold differ so much?
Usually because they describe different jobs. One may include containment, removal of damaged drywall and a fix for the moisture; the other may be a surface clean. Put the two scopes side by side before comparing totals.
Does HVAC mold always mean replacing ducts?
Not always. Hard metal ducts can often be cleaned, while flexible duct and duct board that grew mold are commonly replaced. Replacement tends to push a job toward the upper part of Fixr's $3,000–$10,000 HVAC range.
